TWO FREE ART EXHIBITS AT PINCKNEYVILLE PARKTopix - Wed Nov 04
( Lawrenceville , Ga. , Nov. 4, 2009) Gwinnett County Parks & Recreations Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center is sponsoring a free exhibit of two-dimensional work of the Elizabeth Bame titled Quiet Impressions and three-dimensional work of Carlos Almaguer titled Force of Nature. Many of Elizabeth Bames paintings were inspired from her trips to Europe, as well as the U.S. She has been in numerous juried shows, won several awards, and was selected for the Red Cinder Artist-in-Residence program in 2003. She enjoys painting portraits and at various times has taught classical portrait painting at The Art School in Sandy Springs . With each painting, my ultimate goal is not merely the composition of an attractive scene, but the creation of a moment. And that moment is not an instant or a second. That moment should linger and breathe deeply. If I can take that moment and make it last forever, if I can somehow recreate that perfect experience of peace, then I believe I've been successful, says Bame. Juan Carlos Almaguer grew-up in Chicago , attended the University in Monterrey Mexico , and began throwing pots in 2004 as a hobby. The simple yet intense process of wheel throwing was exciting and relaxing at the same time. Here was something as simple as earth, with the combination of water and fire that could turn out a creation which outlasts a lifespan. It is both intimidating and inspiring. Most of my work is experimental by nature, I like to try new techniques and enjoy the versatility of a three dimensional surface says Almaguer. An opening reception will be held Thurs., Nov. 12, 7 p.m. 9 p.m. Both exhibits will be on display Nov. 9 through Feb. 4. Exhibit hours are Mon. Thurs. 10 a.m. 9 p.m., Fri. 10 a.m. 4 p.m., and Sat. 9 a.m. 5 p.m. Admission is free.Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center is located at 4650 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross.
